To get dirt out of clothes she must scrub
using soap made from lye
and then wring them to dry.
They’ll get dirty AGAIN— there’s the rub!
/// When the family’s clothes she completes,
it is time to wash towels and sheets.
Her job never gets done
and no part of it’s fun.
Wash, rinse, dry cycle always repeats.

which could wash clothes and dry them when clean.
She’d then be obsolete
and thrown out on the street,
so she curses what she has foreseen.

There’ve been times when her fingernails bled.
Meager wages she earns
aren’t worth sores and burns.
