/// Marcel called to his big sister Brenda,
pointing back at the skies which portend a
momentous “mind-blower,”
he just has to show her.
“Look! The heavens have a gay agenda.”

/// Neither Marcel nor Brenda is queer,
but they’d heard it was something to fear.
It was never OK
for a man to be gay.
(For a girl, only in Junior year.)

/// Many college girls find sex is stale,
done with partners exclusively male.
For a time they’re content
with this “experiment,”
but, don’t worry, they didn’t inhale.

/// Most eventually come back to guys,
which, to me, frankly, is a surprise.
After “Jill,” why go back
to some rough, hairy “Jack”?
There’s no contest— at least, in my eyes.

/// Brenda halted their mule then and there,
and all turned around so they could stare
at this colorful arc
which glowed bright in the dark,
like a sign from God hung in mid-air.

/// But what is it God’s trying to say?
Marcel thinks that they both ought to pray.
Could it possibly be
He wants us to be free
to love who we want in our own way?

/// Does The Rainbow negate their belief,
that those who don’t conform come to grief?
After serious thought…
they bought all they’d been taught:
“Gays are Hades-bound.” What a relief!

/// It’s impossible to overstate
mankind’s need to condemn and to hate.
Pick a scapegoat to blame
so your group wins the game.
(They believe people choose to be straight.)

/// The rainbow flag says we’re diverse
in our genders. Some find this perverse.
Once a binary choice—
multitudes now have voice.
What they can’t understand they will curse.
