/// See the Woman with Sunflower dote
on her daughter. What does this connote?
It’s a symbol most missed.
She’s a proud suffragist,
who hopes, one day, all women can vote.
/// Lest you think that I wrote this in jest,
it is true that the bloom on her chest
(and the bright yellow hues)
at that time were strong clues
that, for suffrage, support she expressed.
/// Here the mother is shown in reflection
on her innocent daughter’s protection.
Her sweet face in the mirror
makes the goal seem much clearer:
To be counted when there’s an election.
/// This same painting once drew great applause
at a show which raised funds for the cause.
Some years later, at last,
an amendment was passed
which struck down anti-female-vote laws.
