(They still sometimes get frisky at night.)

/// He still thinks of his wife as his Queen,
and to her he’s unchanged since eighteen.
Are they sipping from mugs
of mind-altering drugs?
Well, they do drink a lot of caffeine.

/// Man and wife were both born with good genes.
Shun red meat, but they eat lots of greens.
When her husband wakes up
to a freshly brewed cup,
that whole day he will be full of beans.

/// And the beans he is full of en masse,
aren’t those that will generate gas.
His get ground up to have a
steaming black cup of Java,
or at times just a small demitasse.

/// Coffee beans are like pits in a cherry,
or the seeds you would find in a berry.
True, consuming these “beans”
makes him search for latrines;
coffee keeps him “on schedule” and merry.

/// He prefers drinking coffee one way:
strong and black, and he sips it all day.
But if she is to thrive
she stops coffee at five,
or with long sleepless nights she will pay.

/// She drinks hers mixed with sugar and cream,
but her brew’s stronger than it may seem.
Though the color is light
she can give it some bite
filling half of the cup with Jim Beam.
