Colette snags a loose hat when it goes.
Places each in a box
(which she’s weighed down with rocks)
to be sold as Colette’s Used Chapeaux.
/// Colette uses some practiced techniques
to retrieve wind-blown hats that she seeks.
She will spread her skirts wide,
catch and trap hats inside,
and then sell them to local boutiques.
/// As one man climbs the stairway in haste
he turns, eyes drawn to her tiny waist.
And while he’s distracted
Colette’s colleague acted;
stole his wallet, then vanished untraced.
/// The gale ripples Colette’s puffy sleeves,
as through crowds of new victims she weaves.
Everyone she deceives
on arrival home grieves.
Windy Paris, the haven of thieves.

With each load that she lifts they get worse.
