and she treasured each bouquet he’d get her.
This poetic young fella
proposed to Petronella,
but, to her, marriage seems like a fetter.
/// He said their bliss would reach to new heights;
she’d be loved all her days (and her nights!).
She was born to great wealth
and has learning and health.
If she marries, she forfeits her rights.
/// Petronella prefers being single.
If discreet, with young men she can mingle.
But if any child came,
it must have Daddy’s name.
Was the consequence worth a brief tingle?
/// She is desperately starting to pray
that her rash will, posthaste, fade away.
