Like My New Mime Painting? I Bought It at a Silent Auction, Date Unknown
Oil on canvas
/// These Three Mimes, (also known as Three Clowns),
like all men have their ups and their downs.
They share one make-up style
with a painted on smile,
but that can’t hide their dead eyes and frowns.
/// These Three Clowns, (also known as Three Mimes),
had their photo page one in The Times.
Since they all look the same,
no one knows who to blame
when they rob banks or do other crimes.
/// A clown’s purpose should be to spread cheer,
but they too often generate fear.
That distinctive face paint
makes kids cry or feel faint
from a “smile” that’s a stark blood-red leer.
/// Clowns may wear outfits ruffled and lacy,
with huge shoes, but for some all that they see
is a frightening face
that will make their hearts race.
(Think of Pennywise or John Wayne Gacy.)
