/// Mother teaches her young daughter Weaving
and has conned the child into believing
they can turn straw to gold.
Yet when baskets are sold,
in a way her Mom wasn’t deceiving.
/// “She’s too young,” claimed her husband (and critic).
His wife answered the charge, analytic:
“Now’s when fingers are nimble,
fast and strong. Earned her thimble.
All too soon she’ll, like me, be arthritic.”
/// Since her husband’s a feckless buffoon,
earning money is inopportune.
Girls can’t choose if they’re beggars,
(and kept barefoot and “preggers”),
so the child needs to get some shoes soon.
/// The girl’s learning to work with her hands,
an improvement on where her Mom stands.
They‘ll try boosting their sales
because if all else fails
they must give in to rich men’s demands.
