/// With his copper wheel, The Glass Engraver,
etched designs which were highly in favor.
Once, when they had a fight
his ex-wife, out of spite,
smashed a dozen; he never forgave her.
/// The engraver, when learning, would make
a few errors and glasses would break.
Drowsy from lack of sleep
he cut one line too deep.
Carved the first “dribble glass” by mistake.
/// New engravings he proudly devised:
he could make glassware personalized.
With initials, a gift
made recipients miffed
when by “No Returns” they got surprised.
/// A “dim bulb” who is not very bright,
he works only by natural light.
With his old copper wheel
he carves glassware by feel.
When the moon’s out he etches by night.
