/// Hugo Reisinger paid Anders Zorn
for this portrait. His best clothes were worn.
That the masses might see him,
its now in a museum,
where a gallery it can adorn.

/// As a lover of art (and tycoon),
Hugo could, with great artists commune.
He got bored, stiffly posing,
and was fearful of dozing,
so he puckered and whistled a tune.

/// He is holding a costly fedora,
and kid gloves which are lined with angora.
Hugo’s gold pinkie ring,
cuff links, and other bling,
show his status— his wealthy man’s aura.

/// His dark eyes seem to bore their way through
oils and canvas as though Hugo knew
every dark secret sın
we keep hidden within.
His bold gaze implies, “I’m watching you!”

Hugo Reisinger was my great grandfather. This painting now belongs to the National Gallery in Washington, DC. A larger version hangs in my house today. I found this Melcher use of this to be very amusing!
