The painting’s title: Zwei Herren in der Hauptallee, im Hintergrund eine Pferdekutsche
(Hauptallee is a long avenue through Prater park in Vienna, Austria.)

/// These Two Gentlemen in the High Street
know that this is a safe place to meet.
In this park in Vienna,
no one’s “gaydar” antenna
will suspect that their talk’s indiscreet.

/// In the Background a loud Horsedrawn Carriage
masks their talk of Dolph’s upcoming marriage.
His platonic arrangement
need not cause their estrangement—
there’s no reason this girl to disparage.

/// Men who love other men keep it hidden
when such censured desires are forbidden.
To avoid what he feared,
Dolph will marry his “beard,”
but she’ll see to it he is hagridden.
