The child doesn’t like teasing one bit.
So Mom praises the girl
and her way with a purl.
(If she’s needled at all she might quit.)

/// Even at this young age females learn
that in this life their keep they must earn.
Lessons found in no book:
How to sew, clean and cook,
and your husband’s desires not to spurn.

/// Hardly more than an infant, Marie
is in training so that she can be
a good wife or a maid.
If the latter, she’s paid;
if a wife, she will labor for free.

/// All that labor includes giving birth—
(proof to men of a female’s true worth).
Baby girls who don’t die
learn these skills too, thereby
forming families to people the Earth.
