that the store come to her,
toting veggies from door-to-Dutch door.

/// The sad dog has a look of defeat.
Raw asparagus isn’t a treat
as far as he’s concerned
and all morning he’s yearned
for a meal of mouthwatering meat.

/// Ghebbe will, for tonight’s dinner, cook
from a recipe found in a book.
With asparagus they
warn that by the next day
chamber pots for dead skunks are mistook.
