/// The Vicountess, (poolside at Palm Springs),
was notorious for these four things:
Her great legs, beauty, too,
and her choice of words (blue),
and her numerous pre-divorce flings.
/// A great looking Bohemian girl
got caught up in the posh London whirl.
A Vicountess she was;
divorce hurt her because
her ex-husband went on to be Earl.
/// Posing perched on that board was no whim.
Doris shows off each tanned, shapely limb.
Some young man we don’t know,
(for his face doesn’t show),
suggests scandal. Why else include him?
/// In the hot sun, one way to keep cool
is to dangle your toes in the pool.
With legs lovely and long,
wear shorts (that era’s thong);
that much thigh made the male viewers drool.
“The Vicountess Castlerosse, Palm Springs, 1938,” born Doris Delevigne in 1900, she married the Vicount in 1928 and divorced ten years later after becoming a media celebrity. Her grand-niece is model and actress Cara Delevigne.
