/// At Café (La Pâtisserie) Gloppe,
an upscale belle epoque pastry shop
on the Champs Elysees,
patrons managed to stay
rather slim despite eating nonstop.

/// Rich foods were part of what Frenchmen ate,
but it wasn’t all carbohydrate.
They used portion control,
walked a lot, and their goal
was to savor foods, not put on weight.

/// Women sit at a table to eat
tasty snacks which are naturally sweet.
No corn syrup at all,
and if morsels should fall
that black poodle is primed for a treat.

/// Yankee tourists note to their surprise,
that Parisians are not super-size.
Unlike folks in the States,
they can keep down their weights.
Meals do not come with sides of “French” fries!

/// Clothed with elegance, classy and proper.
Never heard of a Big Mac or Whopper.
The Parisian elite
dressed to match how they’d eat,
quite unlike a U.S. Walmart shopper.
