/// “Portrait of a Woman and a Man.”
Make up jokes about that, if you can.
It is ho-hum generic,
not a whit esoteric,
nothing ribald which might risk a ban.
/// There’s a portrait she holds in her hand,
which, apparently she has just scanned.
The face may well remind her
of the man right behind her.
(Is he WANTED, or in great demand?)
/// The man’s face seems (to me) the same one
as self-portraits Jan Willem has done.
Is “A Woman” his bride?
He does seem to take pride
in his portrait; he’s painted a ton.
/// As she sits, she looks up at his chin
with a sweet, almost secretive grin.
Why was Jan so unclear
about who we see here?
Do these two share some clandestine sin?
