/// In this oil titled “Herdsman’s Repose,”
two teens rest, barefoot, wiggling their toes.
Gaspard’s girlfriend preferred
spots upwind of the herd.
(Susanne still had a sensitive nose.)
/// As a herdsman, Gaspard learned to dwell
among cattle ignoring the smell.
But, when shoeless, took care
to observe closely where
on the ground the herd’s fresh manure fell.
/// On these beautiful, breezy spring days,
the pair met where the cattle could graze.
Morning milking all done,
Susanne sat in the sun,
content here with her boyfriend to laze.
/// After lunch, feeling drowsy and full,
Gaspard bragged of the pranks he would pull.
How one day they’d both feast
on that nearest horned beast.
Said Susanne, “That’s a whole lot of bull!”
