/// Bather shown Stepping into a Tub,
for her Saturday night soak and scrub.
Though, of course, she’s undressed,
not seen here at her best.
She seems awkward, (and kind of a chub).
/// It’s the angle that makes her look wide.
She contorts to get both legs inside.
Does the fear she might slip
explain her iron grip?
Degas posed her; she gamely complied.
/// Little doubt with an alternate stance,
she’d inspire thoughts of lust, or romance,
but this painting was made
with her limbs oddly splayed,
so we look, mildly piqued, but askance.
