/// First Sir Reginald talked himself hoarse,
then at last he resorted to force.
Daughter’s husband’s the one
who is Under the Gun
to agree to a “shotgun divorce.”
/// Son-in-law is a wastrel and cheat
who is practiced in lies and deceit.
But, much worse, he brought shame
on the family name,
making no effort to be discreet.
/// How ironic. With threats Reg is shedding
the same man he’d coerced into wedding
his sweet daughter, who’d smiled,
“Papa dear, I’m with child,
and Ramon is the man I’ve been bedding.”
/// Sir Reginald’s grandchild alone
was the sole reason Reg might condone
all the things Ramon did.
Then, blood tests proved the kid
never could have been sired by Ramon.
/// Reg’s rifle was meant to coerce
his smug son-in-law, (proudly perverse),
into choosing the course
of a no-fault divorce
over riding away in a hearse.
/// Though Sir Reginald’s willing to shoot,
he would much rather end this dispute
with Ramon’s autograph
on divorce papers. Staff
could then show him the door with a boot.
/// Daddy hates all behavior that’s shoddy,
and he’d rather not deal with a body.
If the cad goes away
with no settlement pay,
Reg will toast his win with a hot toddy.
