/// These two knew from the time they first met.
The Engagement. Agreed on and set.
Mama looks up to gloat;
Pa sneaks out in his coat.
Can’t pay dowry, he’s too much in debt.

/// The bold soldier’d been wed to his duty
‘til his capture by her pristine beauty.
When he’d gone off to war
she’d been plighted before.
Which betrothed had his way with her? Tutti.

/// All her boyfriends she called by the same
pet name, “Tiger,” (not by his real name).
Each would leave her, chagrined,
when he learned he’d been skinned.
She kept all their rings, none of the blame.

/// Each fiancé had gone on his way
when her father confessed he can’t pay
the agreed on amount,
(even with a discount).
But, her soldier, she’d order to stay.

/// Her tall soldier was more than a stud.
From his bearing, he has noble blood.
Papa took her advice,
“Ask him for a bride price.
This time, nip dowry talk in the bud!”
