/ Elbert’s barrow he wheeled to her side.
Fenna sighed, “You boor, have you no pride?”
He sneaks peeks down her blouse
as they trudge toward her house.
He leered, “Trade you a ride for a ride?”

/// A true gentleman wouldn’t condone
that she carry her burden alone,
but he won’t wheel her mat
‘til he gets “tìt for tat,”
(a tatami upon which to bone).

/// Elbert’s rudeness made Fenna a wreck.
Her walk home was a tiresome trek.
But, (her anger in check),
Fenna thought, “What the heck,
Elbert’s neckless yet begs me to neck?”

/// We can see her left arm, but the right
one is hidden away out of sight.
His hands must grasp both narrow
handles of his wheelbarrow.
If she’s smart, it’s a blade she holds tight.

/// A small knife could provide her protection
from young Elbert’s unwanted affection.
Fenna’s verbal objection
to his ogling inspection
may not be a sufficient rejection.
