“Do you like it?” (Just hemming and hawing.)

“It resembles you, but should be clearer.
It looks unreal because
you’ve omitted your flaws.
Try again, but, this time, use a mirror.”

/// Her reply: “We ought never have married.
You pay no heed to how I’ve been harried.
You forget how I cried
when our first puppy died,
which I bought the fifth time I miscarried.”
