/// Dressing up to go out was a treat,
but her hair wasn’t always so neat.
Took her husband’s advice,
(but first made it look nice),
to “put on the old feedbag and eat.”
/// Sarah’s head was her most striking feature.
About hat design, none had to teach her.
Her chapeau’s unique shape
Jack Pierce later would ape
in the make-up for Frankenstein’s creature.
/// Her big hat’s like a helmet for battle
to protect from theft all bovine chattel.
But the truth can be told:
All her cows have been sold,
so, it’s true, “she’s all hat and no cattle.”
/// Her large hat has been padded enough; it
can be used, when she sits, as a tuffet.
So you needn’t have fear
for the clothes on her rear.
If her bottom’s too flat, she can stuff it.
/// Worker bees in her bonnet all strive
to keep Queen and her offspring alive.
On the inside are stacks
of small cells made of wax
in her hairdo that’s called a beehive.
/// As her portrait makes perfectly clear,
Sarah chose unique clothes without fear.
Though the hat draws our eyes,
there’s another surprise.
It’s her improvised kerchief-brassiere.
