/// In his boat he’d been fishing all day,
facing gale winds, high seas, and salt spray.
But his small, paltry catch
couldn’t come close to match
what he saw at the beach on display.
/// The waves, with a hurricane roar
had beached hundreds of fish on the shore.
By a cruel twist of fate
his day’s haul looked like bait,
and that’s when, like a sailor, he swore.
/// His foul words were heard clearly by each
of the fish mongers here on the beach,
but foul smells in the air
are far worse, and so they’re
not offended by his “salty” speech.
/// The grim fisherman tightened his belt.
With misfortune he often had dealt.
What he’d caught, he’d not waste,
(though he disliked the taste
and the smell that he smelt from these smelt).
