/// His “Girl With a Pearl Earring”— iconic.
Vermeer clearly had cravings hedonic.
“Let’s just keep things Platonic,”
she sighed (sounding sardonic).
Thus aborting his lust embryonic.
/// Other models just cannot compare.
She has beauty and great savoir faire.
When Vermeer asked her out
she replied with a pout,
“Sorry, can’t. See? I just washed my hair.”
/// The teen’s tightly wrapped turban won’t show
any sign of what’s hidden below.
Red head, blonde or brunette,
or… a cut to regret?
Also, where did the girl’s eyebrows go?
/// Even if she were bald as an egg,
her allure would make many men beg.
Her pose speaks of her grace,
and beyond that sweet face,
the lads swoon when she shows them some leg.
/// Though a beauty, how could this young girl
have afforded that glittering pearl?
It was placed in her ear
by the painter, Vermeer
as a focus for light’s liquid swirl.
/// But some experts reviewed and weighed in
as to whether that earring’s akin
to a jewel from the sea.
One declared it to be
a cheap bauble made of polished tin.
/// Her expression shows yearning unblinking.
It may be that she dreams they’ll be linking.
But we can’t see her soul;
here, Vermeer’s in control.
Did he paint what he hopes she is thinking?
/// That pearl earring he lent her to wear
is one half of a flawless matched pair.
In that three-quarters pose,
only her left ear shows.
She’ll get both if they have an affair.
