/// Her job: Bundle up wood for the fire.
But the work was exhausting. She’d tire.
When she napped ‘neath the trees
one stout branch she would seize
and she’d dream of some nameless desire.

/// She’s an innocent girl, merely twelve.
Any thoughts about men she must shelve
until several years pass.
As a fully-grown lass
into adult desires she may delve.

/// On a bed made from soft leaves and mosses,
Gudrun fitfully squirms, turns and tosses.
Wood she’s gathered is bound
by a cord tied around,
but it’s wet, which will displease her bosses.

/// She believed she could get the sticks drier,
if they’re held just right over a fire.
Due to damp rainy weather,
her two sticks rubbed together
won’t alight despite burning desire.
