Josef Danhauser, Austrian
The World’s Laziest Artist, Andy Snore-hol, 1830
Oil on canvas
/// He has lost inspiration, it seems.
Cannot work; no good models or themes.
At his easel, at ease,
he is catching some Z’s.
Pictures painting the girl of his dreams.
/// Many artists just paint what they view
with their eyes, realistic and true.
Others try to depict
dreams that do not restrict
them from fantasies wild or taboo.
/// When the paint thinner’s getting him high,
and he’s straining his third, (inner), eye,
he will sometimes start snoring.
It is famously boring
to be stuck somewhere watching paint dry.
/// This guy doesn’t seem “long in the tooth.”
Sleeping painter is only a youth.
He WILL age, that’s the truth,
perhaps grow more uncouth,
but not ruthless— (he likes having Ruth).
/// So although his libido may wane,
painting women will not be a pain.
He may make abstract art,
but the nude model part
he will view as, on balance, a gain.
/// Those nude models, when first they would see
what he painted would say, “That’s not me!”
(His work may be abstract,
but it is still a fact
that the view’s worth their modeling fee.)
