THROWBACK THURSDAY: MASTERPIECE #2151 (3/5/19)
/// On The Jury, to doubts one man clung.
Most said “Hang her!” but he wants her sprung.
She has beauty and wit
so he votes to acquit.
“Let her know that THIS juror is hung.”
/// The eleven for “guilty” are bored.
The defendant was mostly ignored.
They resent her affairs
with the footman “downstairs.”
(It’s been decades since one of them scored.)
/// She’d repeated her story in tears
to this jury made up of her “peers.”
No decision was made,
so her fate is delayed.
A retrial could take two more years.
/// Though they tried hard to be conscientious,
the entire idea was contentious.
As predicted by skeptics—
twelve known narcoleptics
could never arrive at consensus.
/// Trial of courtesan Phryne had pitted
Euthias against one more quick-witted.
Hypereides fury
changed the minds of the jury—
bared her breasts and THAT got her acquitted.
/// With a body like she had, the odds
were that Phryne was favored by gods.
For the jurors she’d strip
demonstrating her grip
on her clients she flexed pecs and quads.
