/// He throws seeds on the soil; he’s The Sower,
hoping for future plants, each a grower.
But that flock of birds feeds
on those unburied seeds.
(There’ll be no future needs for a mower.)

/// He totes seeds in his extra-long shirt,
but won’t plant them. Why? What would it hurt
to push them deep below
where they’ll more likely grow
than if dropped down on top of the dirt?

/// When he speaks of his skills he’ll mislead
those non-farmers who don’t closely heed
the man’s long, boring screed
how he “scatters his seed.”
They assume he’s attempting to breed.

/// Doesn’t have a good job, though he’s thirty.
Won’t do labor that gets his hands dirty.
His black hat with wide brim
keeps the sun off of him
to avoid wrinkles and remain “purty.”
