/// His wood bench is inclined with a curve.
He’d slide down, but he hasn’t the nerve.
The top surface is rough
and although he is tough,
wooden splinters he doesn’t deserve.

/// But, who is this nude Man Lying Down
in an odd foggy light, golden brown?
Placed here prone on an angle,
his left arm he lets dangle.
(Does he reach for a hospital gown?)

/// He awoke here perplexed, cold and weary.
His surroundings peculiar and eerie.
Like an autopsy slab
in some mad doctor’s lab.
At this point, that’s his best working theory.

/// As a eunuch this model’s unique,
but that’s why he was showing such cheek.
By displaying his rump,
(the one place he is plump),
the attention he seeks he could pique.

/// Michelangelo posed him a way
Adam’s “privates” would be on display.
But the model soon turned
lying prone when he learned
that the artist who posed him was gay.

/// Michelangelo told him “You flatter
yourself, buddy, but it doesn’t matter.
From memory I’ll draw
and then paint what I saw,
(but for Adam I’ll make some parts fatter).
