/// No full middle name like all the rest.
Truman’s parents thought “S” would be best.
Not dot after the letter;
(they believed that was better).
Like the logo on Superman’s chest.
/// The Enola Gay (first A-Bomb) crewmen,
were commanded by Harry S Truman,
to help end the war quicker.
Thousands died in a flicker.
Was it justified or just inhuman?
(The limerick above pretty much wrote its own last line because of the rhyme scheme, and I put it as a question so as not to stir up unnecessary controversy. But, for what it’s worth, I think Truman made the right decision at the time. It may be possible to fight a “clean” war, but probably impossible to win it. Massive numbers of civilian deaths by bombardment were possible and achieved before the A-bomb, and ending the war ASAP was a noble goal which ultimately saved lives on both sides. Easy for people to second-guess with the benefit of hindsight, but, as Truman pointed out, “The Buck Stops Here.”)
