/// The man’s chances were less than remote
that on “Best Dressed” lists he’d get a vote.
Since old comics he digs,
hat’s from Mandrake or Jiggs,
and he wears Tracy’s long yellow coat.
/// Back in JFK’s time, and before,
when they took oaths and on Bibles swore
to preserve and defend
U.S. laws, they would tend
to remove black silk hats which they wore.
/// This was done as a sign of respect.
(Constitution they swore to protect.)
Then the top hats were ditched.
Now red baseball caps switched.
POTUS headgear’s not what they’d expect.
/// In the future each new White House dweller
will, we hope, be outstanding and stellar,
but the voters may choose
idiocracy, whose
leader sports a cap with a propeller.
/// Certain voters don’t care about “smarts”
or for people with good moral hearts.
They will work to defeat
someone tarred as “elite“
and who champions science or arts.
