/// Is this poor frightened dog LostorStrayed?
Noisy traffic has left her dismayed.
Stymied crossing the street
dodging horses shod feet,
she regrets now that she disobeyed.
/// Back at home, told to “sit” and to “stay,”
she would always, without thought, obey,
but the door wasn’t shut
and then, hunting a nut,
came a squirrel which lured her away.
/// She ran for miles hunting the pest,
with occasional pauses to rest.
Got lost chasing it down,
ending up in midtown,
and can’t sense which way home might be best.
/// In a while the dog’s panic subsides
when she finds a safe doorway and hides.
Certain scents in the air
tell her home’s “over there”
so she leaps in a carriage and rides.

/// London dogcatchers deemed me a stray,
and they chased me (just earning their pay).
Their big net, a cliché,
shows their naïveté;
(I can dodge that slow trap any day).
