/// Kaiser Franz Joseph, making his first
Archives visit. (They should have rehearsed.)
The whole crowd mutely stares
at that cactus he wears.
Bite their tongues, or else laughter may burst.

/// Franz was always a príckly old duck.
Rub him wrong and you’ll likely get stuck.
His headgear symbolizes
that he’s full of surprises.
Get some tweezers for spines you will pluck.

/// Of this mural, we’re shown just a part—
a small slice of a huge piece of art.
We’ve no need to see all
of the men in that hall,
they’re more easily viewed à la carte.

/// In this State Archives building assembled,
many men at the Kaiser’s feet trembled.
But what they couldn’t know,
(this was too long ago),
is Lee Marvin, the star he resembled.
