/// Plump Lyudmila was starting to wilt
‘neath the weight of that heavy wool quilt.
They’d planned making a dress,
though she had to confess
as a poncho it hides how she’s built.

/// Her babushka was waiting to sew
when the segments were ready to go.
They’d marked patterns out but
the dull scissors won’t cut
the thick quilt from Lyudmila’s trousseau.

/// At that point sister Nina suggested
that a thinner cloth ought to be tested.
The lace tablecloth would
make a dress just as good,
but it’s see-through. (She might get arrested.)
