/// Who’s the self-portrait artist shown here?
Kelsey Grammer? No… Edwin Landseer.
Also, the Connoisseurs,
(cultured canines, not curs),
Do they like what they see? It’s not clear.
/// But perhaps we are meant to infer
that the man is a third connoisseur.
Each has taste to impart
trenchant judgements on art,
(despite faces all covered in fur).
/// Hard to tell if the dogs are amused.
Wagging tails would be clues they’re enthused.
To them, artwork seems duller,
(since they cannot see color),
so, most likely, they’re simply confused.
/// Landseer’s drawing is mostly a muddle.
He’s upset that his wife will not cuddle.
She grew cold, as he’d feared,
when he grew that neck beard.
Now, for warmth, with the pooches he’ll huddle.
/// By both leaning in close to his shoulders,
the dogs warm Edwin up ‘til he smolders.
They both, (Myrtle and Lassie),
stare through eyes going glassy;
true art lies in the eyes of beholders.
/// He’d had Lassie since she was a pup.
With his friend, Myrtle’s owner, he’d sup.
Has he chin-whisker pests?
An old saying suggests:
lie with dogs and with fleas you’ll get up.
