/// Abductee of a fiend who unfrocked her,
she was rescued and brought here— which shocked her.
Though it’s just five feet wide,
it’s much bigger inside.
“In my TARDIS you’re safe,” said The Doctor.

/// Her home planet had met with disaster.
A vast vortex had made time run faster.
Hours whizzed by, days careened,
unless stopped by the fiend.
In exchange, she must stay with The Master.

/// Then The Doctor came, setting things right.
Stopped The Master with brains, not a fight.
She’d been virtually bare;
just a green scarf to wear.
Doctor said, “Scarves can be a delight.”

/// In the TARDIS were clothes she could don.
There was one patchwork coat she tried on.
Each patch had its own tint
with a question mark print,
o’er her sheer scarf of sea-green chiffon.

/// When attired in the clothing she chose,
Doctor asked her her name. She said “Rose.”
Dropped her off in a canyon.
She can’t be his companion.
He had already had one of those.

/// I’d assumed only some readers knew
all those references to “Doctor Who,”
and to those who don’t get it,
my response is “Don’t sweat it.”
It was meant for a rare chosen few.

/// What inspired my verse, they will know,
was a BBC One telly show.
Those big round things behind
her are like those designed
for the sets they used long, long ago.

/// In her Burlesque act, “Red” always strips.
Backed by Big Domino she unzips.
But she’s now being sued—
not for standing there nude—
it’s her name, “Gladys Day and the Pips.”

/// Her proportions do not pass inspection.
Skinny legs. Tiny head. Imperfection?
Examine each section:
a mismatched collection.
Like a carnival mirror’s reflection.

/// Adept in terpsichorean arts,
she has culture, good manners and smarts.
While it’s true many men
wouldn’t rate her a “ten,”
she is more than the sum of her parts.

/// This weird painting is far too mysterious.
Was the artist in jest or dead serious?
That huge domino tile;
her proportions so vile;
green chiffon ‘neath her bust— he’s delirious.

> or <

/// Tossing beanbags through holes is exacting;
they bounce off of each edge they’re impacting.
But the men never score
when she’s standing before—
she’s a goalie who’s very distracting.

> or <

/// Despite dominoes, no dominatrix.
She’s was really a famed aviatrix.
As disguise, she had asked
to be domino masked
when she found herself nude in the matrix.
