/// Carl Bloch, (Dane), painted Two Women Talking.
One’s insistent, the other is balking.
Just a small slice of life
showing neighborly strife
captured by some guy standing there gawking.

/// Gjerta crosses her arms, looking jaded.
Priska pleads, but the crone’s not persuaded.
Priska’s booked on a flight;
the witch takes off tonight.
Gjerta: “No, your broom can’t be upgraded.”

/// Very soon Gjerta needs to be shovin’
two young children into her hot oven.
She has no time to stand
hearing Priska demand
that they get the vote of the full coven.

/// “A coven of one” is a scheme
about which old Gjerta might dream.
In fields far from Heaven
the other eleven
are away on their own Quidditch team.

/// Priska sees she won’t win if she nags,
but she’s one of those magical hags
who can cause stabbing pains
in her enemies’ brains
after forming a hex-doll from rags.

/// When invited into Gjerta’s home
Priska managed to locate her comb.
Gjerta never suspected
that the hairs thus collected
would be why her mouth started to foam.

/// Little Hansel and Gretel’s defeat
came from coveting candy that’s sweet.
Locked up inside that dump
they’ve been stuffed ‘til they’re plump.
(Even cannibal witches must eat!)
