/// It’s a rainy day in old “Paree.” Dans la rue, everywhere you can see,
people out, strolling by,
and they keep themselves dry
with identical parapluies.
/// While in Cherbourg the young demoiselles sing to lovers when saying “farewell.”
And each musical band
plays the songs of Legrand,
‘neath umbrellas in shades of pastel.
/// Strolling Paris, one cannot succeed
crossing wet streets at high rates of speed.
If your soles have no grip
you might easily slip
on ubiquitous pavés humides.
/// Lovers rendezvous ‘neath the street lamp,
but today was so gloomy and damp,
that they rented a room
where they’re free to assume
the personae of “bishop” and “tramp.”
